"John Kanaka" is a sea shanty, traditionally performed in a call-and-response manner. This arrangement can offer opportunities for soloists on each verse, with the choir responding with "John Kanaka-naka-tulaie." This arrangement also offers opportunities for your budding musicians to keep the steady rhythm using Orff instruments. (Other instruments may be substituted in place of what I have in the score.) Although written for SAT voices, you can use any mix you have, or have everyone sing in unison if you want. The parts are all written in treble clef. Here is a link that gives a brief description of this tune: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kanaka.
